I hate to cheap out on this one to, but I don't know of any neat system for developing the ability to read charts and graphs. Like everything else here, the important part is going to be you taking the time to review the chart of graph, ask them questions about what they can find out from the chart or graph, and having them draw conclusions based on it.

The essential component here is to neither overlook charts and graphs nor simply tell students everything they need to know within one. They need the practice of creating, reading and interpreting them if they are to improve.
